State banks will compete for life and non-life business

The insurance and banking regulators are likely to allow the Bank of China to open an insurer this year

Headline growth figures for China’s insurance industry in 2008 revealed an increase in life business of 49.2% to Yuan666bn while non-life business was 20% up at Yuan309bn.
