UK HOMEOWNERS SEE FLOOD RISK AS OTHER PEOPLES’ PROBLEM

Although 95% of people who live in UK homes that face potential flooding think that flood risk is a problem in the UK, only 45% think that their own homes are in danger, according to a report from the UK Environment Agency. Chairwoman Barbara Young said that the reasons that homeowners refused to accept the reality of their risk level was partly apathy and partly because to do so and to take the required actions to protect their home could decrease its value. “Pretending you are not at risk is not a defence. It is a delusion”, said Ms Young.
