New security scheme launches

Kjetil Eivindstad, of Gard, outlines a new financial security scheme, which could provide an industry-wide solution for the issuers of bunker blue cards

The International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage, 2001 (the Bunker Convention) came into force on 21 November 2008. It provides a liability, compensation and compulsory insurance system for the victims of oil pollution damage caused by spills of bunker oil from any seagoing vessel and seaborne craft of any type whatsoever, including MOUs.
