Insurance supervisors are cautiously optimistic

However, the International Association of Insurance Supervisors’ (IAIS) is concerned about insurers’ involvement in securities lending; particularly in situations where insurers are approached by commercial banks. The IAIS also expressed concern about many investors’ clear lack of knowledge about the risks inherent in the instruments they invested in

“We are OK for the time being, but should keep a close eye on the disturbing developments emerging as a result of the global financial and economic turmoil”. This is the brief summary of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors’ (IAIS) view of the global insurance sector as put forward in its 2008 recent report.
