Mutual insurers mount fight back campaign

Demutualisations has damaged the sector’s market share but mutuals say they are well-positioned in the current climate

After a long period of decline in the final decade of the 20th century, the mutual movement – including not only insurers and friendly societies but a wide range of other service industries such as retailing, health care, building societies and football clubs – is confident that it can weather the current economic climate and has been promoting the benefits of mutuals over listed rivals in times of market stress.
