Manches LLP v Carl Freer [2006] EWHC 991 (QB)

Where a director of two companies had signed letters of engagement on behalf of the companies with the solicitors which purported to make the director personally liable, there was no evidence that he had signed any document on his own behalf or that he intended to bind himself to guarantee payment of sums owing by the companies to the solicitors. In the absence of any second letter from the director personally, the solicitors’ claim failed.
