Outdated technology and poor accommodation
The 2005 annual report of the Commercial Court recorded 97 trials during the year (a 67% increase), the vast majority being
for sums ‘well in excess of £1 million and one for over £1 billion’, despite outdated technology and poor accommodation. More
than half of all claims issued involved a foreign party and 65% settled after being allocated a hearing date, which the report
attributed to a tight case management schedule and very reasonable lead times to the trial date.
