Section 29 of the Limitation Act 1980 provides: ‘(5) Where any right of action has accrued to recover any debt … and the person liable or accountable … acknowledges the claim … the rights shall be treated as having accrued on and not before the date of acknowledgement.’ Section 30 provides: ‘(1) To be effective for the purpose of Section 29 … an acknowledgement must be in writing and signed by the person making it …’
