Encouraging risk-takers

In welcoming the Enterprise Act 2002 (which came into force on 15 September in respect of companies and comes into force in respect of personal bankruptcy on 1 April 2004) reducing the period of presumed discharge from bankruptcy from three years to one year, Patricia Hewitt, the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, said that this was to encourage ‘honest risk-takers’.
