Remoteness of damage

McManus and others v Beckham ([2002] EWCA Civ 939 4 July)

Victoria Beckham slandered the claimant’s business to customers within the claimants’ shop. The particulars of claim included allegations that the slander had been repeated in a newspaper with consequent substantial loss of business. The defendant sought to strike out those particulars on the ground that the claimants could not rely on law for the unauthorised repetition of the alleged slander.
