Litigation Letter

Legal Aid

Sections 1 to 11 of the Access to justice Act 1999 came into force on 1 April 2000. This means that from 1 April people who are financially assisted will get their assistance from the Legal Services Commission instead of receiving legal aid (subject to transitional provisions). The consequence of this is that the references to legal aid in fees orders must be changed. These changes do not affect the fees payable, or the way the rules on remission and exemption will operate.
