‘Family Work is Second Best’

‘It’s official! Family Law is second class work for the less able. The Lord Chancellor has told the Law Society that he does not propose to increase remuneration rates for family work. He said: “The Law Society suggests that lower salaries will lead to difficulties in attracting better-qualified solicitors. It is not surprising that legal aid firms report lower earnings. I am concerned that there are sufficient, competent practitioners – we do not need to attract the very best”. Which demonstrates that he does not consider family work to be comparable to civil non-matrimonial work’.
