Resolving Circumcision Dispute
In RE J (A Minor) (Prohibited Steps Order: Circumcision) (CA TLR 22 December)
Circumcision of a child, not taking place within days of birth, is an important and irreversible decision that should be referred
to the court in the event of dispute. Section 2(7) of the
Children Act 1989 did not enable one parent to arrange for a child to be circumcised without the consent of the other parent who also had parental
responsibility.
