KENYAN INSURERS FACE KS100M BILL AFTER FATAL BUS CRASH
The Kenyan insurance market could face claims of more than KS100m following a fatal bus crash in which more than 70 people died, according to the local insurers’ association. The crash, between two crowded buses last week, was the worst in Kenya’s history, with some passengers burnt beyond recognition. The locally based Daily Nation
newspaper reported that insurers were expected to pay at least KS30m as compensation for those killed. It quoted Stewart Henderson, chairman of the Association of Kenya Insurers, as suggesting that the bill could rise to more than KS100m following moves by survivors to win payouts for hospitalisation, injuries and loss of earnings.
