These were five cases concerned with three separate boating incidents in Canadian inland waters. In the first incident a passenger
drowned when a pleasure boat sank on Lake Erie. The second incident involved a collision between two pleasure craft on Lake
Joseph, resulting in death and personal injuries. In the third incident, on Lake Seul, the engine of a motorboat failed to
disengage from a forward gear, throwing the operator and a passenger into the water, as a result of which the passenger drowned.
