Indian arbitrator has no jurisdiction to award interest

The plaintiffs appointed the defendants as transport and handling contractors. Clause 9 of the relevant agreement provided that the defendants should load and unload all wagons and trucks on the day of their arrival and should be responsible for all demurrage that might accrue as per Railways Rules in force during the period of the contract unless the delay was for reason beyond the defendants’ control.
