Catamaran disqualified from victory in 1988 America’s Cup challenge

In September 1988 the San Diego Yacht Club won the America’s Cup in a catamaran. The unsuccessful challenger, the Mercury Bay Boating Club, objected to the use of a multihulled vessel. Mercury Bay subsequently applied to the court for an order that San Diego’s victory was invalid and that their catamaran should have been disqualified.
