Coltman v. Bibby Tankers Ltd. (The Derbyshire) - Court of Appeal (O’Connor, Lloyd and Glidewell L.JJ.) - 27 January 1987

Ship is not “equipment”

The plaintiffs were the relatives of a crew member who died when the vessel Derbyshire sank with all hands in 1980. It was alleged that the ship broke in half because of defects in her hull. The defendants were the owners of the ship and were the employers of the deceased crew member.
