In March 1984 the plaintiff time-charterers issued a writ
in rem
against the vessel

claiming damages or an indemnity in respect of any sum the charterers might have to pay to the owners of cargo. The plaintiffs
applied for and obtained a warrant of arrest for

, and the ship was arrested at Immingham a few days later. The plaintiffs’ purpose was solely to obtain security for any award
in their favour in an arbitration which had been commenced some two months earlier.
