Whether garnishee entitled to set off damages against freight claim

The appellants obtained judgment by default against E. for the sum of $111,296. They commenced garnishee proceedings against B. which allegedly owed $8,700 to E. as freight under a bill of lading. B. disputed liability on the ground that E. had made later delivery under the bill of lading and that it had suffered damages in the sum of $12,000 which it was entitled to recover from E.
