Bailee wrongfully deprived of possession of goods - Correct measure of damages

By contract dated 20 May 1977 IOC agreed to sell to M. 7,000 metric tons of edible salt at a price of S$22 per metric ton c. & f. Chittagong/Chalna. M. arranged finance for the purchase through A. by means of A. opening two transferable letters of credit in favour of IOC in respect of 5,000 metric tons of the salt. A. duly opened the letters of credit at a total cost to A. of U.S.$275,620.
