The JCT Major Project Form.

In the United Kingdom the Joint Contracts Tribunal recently published the Major Project Form (2003) and a Major Project Sub-Contract Form, both of which have been well received. The purpose of the form is to meet the requirements of large commercial developments especially where the employer does not intend to use or occupy the works. It therefore takes account of the interests of third parties who may take over or occupy the development. It also provides for a design submission procedure to reflect the fact of the many sources of design on such projects.
This work is by a member of one of the UK’s leading firms of solicitors, Pinsent Masons. It is an extensive and detailed commentary on the principal form. As the form could well be used widely and not just for major projects, the book should reach a wide audience. Obviously, there is (or was) no case law on the form. Nevertheless any standard is based on the assumption that certain decisions on other forms of contract represent the likely approach of
