Marine insurance - Meaning of phrase “towed in tandem” in policy wording

This was an action by plaintiff owners against the insurers of their vessels Marlhill and Lac Des Iles , which were to be towed from Quebec City to Tampico, Mexico. Both vessels subsequently sank in bad weather in the Atlantic Ocean whilst under tow. There was no dispute that the loss was caused or contributed to by heavy weather, which was an insured peril.
