Amoco Cadiz disaster - Shipbuilders and Amoco liable

- The Amoco Cadiz , a VLCC of 230,000 deadweight tons, was owned by Amoco Transport Company (“Transport”) and operated by the Amoco International Oil Company (“AIOC”). Transport was indirectly owned by the Standard Oil Company of Indiana (“Standard”) through a chain of wholly owned subsidiaries. AIOC was wholly owned by Standard. These three parties are referred to as “the Amoco parties”. The Amoco Cadiz was time-chartered to Shell AIOC Petroleum Co. Ltd. in May 1974.
