Baltime limited responsibility clause - Failure of crew of ro-ro vessel to close ramp - Cargo damaged - Whether shipowners liable

A time charter involved the carriage of paper rolls on the ro-ro vessel Baltic Press. On a trip from Norrköping to Lübeck the vessel left Norrköping with the aft ramp unlocked, which caused it to open during the transport, trailing in the water and exposing the cargo to sea water. Three indicator lamps that should have shown the defect were out of order.
