In January 2003 Novocargo USA Inc, a non-vessel owning common carrier, contracted with the shippers of a container of furniture to carry the furniture from Valencia to New York. Novocargo sub-contracted the ocean carriage to Senator Lines GmbH. Senator issued a sea waybill to Novocargo for the furniture. The cargo was loaded aboard the vessel Pacific Senator, a container ship time chartered by Senator.
