Arbitration - Whether letter giving notice of reference to arbitration sufficient to stop time running under Limitation Acts

The plaintiffs entered into a written contract with the defendant for the shipment of pipes. It was an express term of the contract that disputes were to be referred to three arbitrators, to be appointed by each of the parties and the third by the two chosen. It was common ground that the Hague Rules applied, and that by Article III Rule 6 the action would be time barred unless suit was brought within one year of delivery of the pipes.
