Bush unveils airline safety proposals
WASHINGTON - President Bush has announced new airline safety proposals to reassure the US public and bolster commercial air
travel. These include installing stronger cockpit doors and using more air marshals to ensure hijacks like those on September
11 are not repeated. The air marshal programme was first instigated in the 1970's in response to a series of hijackings. Marshals
are armed, plainclothes federal agents that ride on domestic flights.
