CNA Re closes non-US offices but sale is still on

LONDON - CNA Re confirmed yesterday it is closing its London, Zurich and other non-US offices, but said its intention to sell the non-US operations was still on. The company intends to retain some of the US business and international catastrophe business previously written in London in its Chicago operations. Stephen Riley, managing director of CNA Re's London operation said a process of due diligence for the sale of the 2000 and prior years' business was underway, and he added that if the sale went through successfully it was possible the buyer would want to retain some of the claims and accounting staff.
