Mercy task force striving to aid victims of East Timor violence

The news stories and pictures from East Timor have been dominating the headlines for several weeks as the militia attempted to stamp out the pro-democracy movement and as UN troops took control. Both the UN and the Red Cross came under attack before troops moved in. Now some of the refugees, who had hidden in the countryside, are returning home but today we hear of the two-pronged relief effort for those who fled the country and reached either Australia or West Timor
