Liens on sub-freights: contractual cross-fire

This case considers the position of a voyage charterer who has received notice from the head owner of the exercise of a lien on sub-freights. A sub-charterer in this position must pay, but may not know to which party it can safely pay, without risking a payment request also from the other party.
