The Organisation of Charter Shipping
A charterparty is mere jargon for a contract between the charterer and the shipowner. Like any other contract, it is an agreement made by the exchange of commercial promises – managed by terms – and recognised as a legal obligation. It does not even have to be in writing; few sorts of contracts do, essentially those which are defined under statute law.
