Recovery actions – letters of indemnity

14.1 Carriers frequently receive letters of indemnity which have the potential to cover exposure to cargo claims. The most common form of letter of indemnity is one given in return for an agreement by the carrier to deliver cargo to a specified receiver without waiting for an original bill of lading to be produced.
