The Queen’s speech
The Queen’s speech, outlining the Government’s legislative programme for what seems likely to be the prelude to a General
Election, didn’t contain any unexpected surprises for Trusts and Estates practitioners. Indeed, it is interesting to note
what was not in the Speech. There was no mention of any Bill to limit the effect of provisions exempting trustees from liability
for negligence or breach of trust, as recommended by the Law Commission. Whether the proposed “Child Trust Fund” will provide
much work for professional advisers remains to be seen. The passage from the Queen’s Speech was as follows.
