Life premiums surge 38% to overtake non-life as largest sector
The growth has been attributed to the growing popularity of investment related (unit-linked) products
The superior performance of the life insurance branch over non-life in the Polish market continued during 2006 and during
the year total premium income has overtaken for the first time the traditionally larger non-life business. Total gross premium
income reached PLN37,560mn (US$11,947mn), an increase of 21.1% in local currency terms, according to the data revealed by
the Polish Chamber of Insurance (PIU). At this level the overall ratio of premiums to GDP reached 3.5%, up from 3.3% in 2005.
