European Commission review of consumer product safety controls

The European Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Meglena Kuneva, has set out a series of initiatives where action will be taken to strengthen the enforcement and implementation of product safety controls currently in place in the EU. The move follows the publication of the results of the Commission’s ‘Stocktaking on Consumer Product Safety Controls’. This was in response to a number of recalls of toys, mostly from China, and involving toy manufacturer Mattel amongst others.
