National Patient Safety Agency report on patient falls

A report from the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) on patient falls has revealed that the overall direct healthcare cost to the NHS is estimated at £15mn every year. In an average 800-bed acute hospital trust there will be around 24 falls every week (over 1,260 falls every year). Associated healthcare costs are estimated at a minimum of £92,000 per year for an average acute trust.
