Thalassaemia couple in settlement
The parents of a child born with the life threatening inherited blood disorder, thalassaemia, have settled out of court with
their local health authority for £180,000 plus costs. The couple’s local hospital failed to identify them as “at risk” of
having a child with the disease, despite the mother being a known carrier.
