Maritime Risk International

Safety data hub

Inmarsat Maritime has launched a maritime safety data hub. Drawing on a dataset combining three years of maritime distress and safety system data with analysis of 106,975 maritime safety broadcasts transmitted in 2025, the platform offers visibility into conditions influencing maritime risk. Analysis found that weather accounted for 84.6 per cent of all urgent messages. By linking safety broadcasts to GMDSS distress calls, the study identified several instances where distress calls came from areas where a weather warning had been delivered.
