CO₂ capture

ClassNK has released its "Guidelines for Onboard CO 2 Capture and Storage Systems (Edition 2.0)", which provides requirements for the safe development and installation of onboard carbon capture systems (OCCS) on vessels. In 2023 ClassNK published the first edition of the Guidelines , which outlined requirements for OCCS using the amine absorption method. In Edition 2.0 the guidelines have been expanded to include requirements for OCCS using the membrane separation method, which has a lower energy requirement compared to the amine absorption method and does not require a permanent supply of amine solution.
