Judge orders appraisal process for Silverstein

A New York federal judge has ruled that Larry Silverstein has to submit the dispute over the cost of the World Trade Center's destruction to a process that may result in an independent appraiser being appointed. Silverstein had argued that after receiving a notification of loss, time limits for the right of insurers to demand an independent appraiser had expired, but the judge ruled that this was not the case. The insurers include Travelers Property Casualty, General Electric, and Lloyd’s. The insurers will now join Allianz in a process in which appraisers from the two sides attempt to agree the cost of the damage.
