Punitive damage cut in relation to compensation

A US$145mn punitive damages award has been overturned by the US Supreme Court. The ruling said that the award was excessive in relation to the US$1mn compensation award. The case involved a policyholder of State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance who accused the insurer of acting in bad faith when it refused to settle a claim relating to a fatal motor accident.
