Auditors liability cap reject by EC

The European Commission has rejected a call from the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms for a limit on the amount that auditors can be sued for. The European Commissioner for financial services said that unlimited liability was a ‘quality driver’ since auditors who did their job properly would have no exposure to litigation. In addition, putting a limit on auditor liability would damage attempts by regulators to restore investor confidence.
