Prison officer’s trauma settlement

A prison officer who counselled sex offenders has been paid damages of £150,000 for psychological trauma. The officer suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression and was unable to work. He claimed that he was not prepared for dealing with sex offenders, and had not been properly supervised. He had begun working with the sex offenders before he had undergone training. The settlement was made shortly before a hearing at the High Court. The Prison Service has not accepted liability.
