Hong Kong Convention on song: cleaning up shipping's act

Maritime Risk International editorial board member Nazery Khalid provides an update on the Hong Kong Convention, a landmark agreement on carrying out shipbreaking in a safe, environmentally friendly and socially responsible way

Shipping is the faithful chauffeur of global trade, providing an economical and efficient means of carrying huge volumes of various types of cargoes across great distances. It is a fulcrum of the global economy, facilitating almost 90 per cent of international trade and playing a pivotal factor in the socio-economic growth of the world's nations and regions.
