4.1 General introduction

Ships can be acquired in various ways, including purchasing new or second-hand vessels, judicial sale, acquiring a majority shareholding in a ship-owning company or hire-purchase agreements. This chapter focuses on the purchase of second-hand (i.e., used) vessels.
