Climate change risks and the role of insurers

This chapter introduces key insurance concepts and provides the theoretical frameworks for considering risks associated with climate change, and for the role of insurers in the fight against climate change and the transition to a net-zero economy. It also advances one of the key theses put forward in this book: that, leveraging their contractual relationships, insurers can engage with and support their policyholders and other stakeholders to take climate mitigation action and to adopt climate change adaptation measures.
