16.1.1 The constitutional structure of Pakistan

Pakistan is a federation of units namely the provinces of Sind, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, and the federating units of Islamabad Capital Territory and Federally Administered Tribal areas (FATA).1 In the 25th constitutional amendment, seven districts of the FATA along the Afghanistan border were merged with the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Province, which reduced the number of federating units to five.
