2022: a year of reckoning

Captain Dwain Hutchinson, of The Bahamas Maritime Authority, looks back on the past year and shares his views on the future for both the registry and the industry

2022 was, in some ways, the year normality began to return but, in many others, it was the year when we discovered that some aspects of life have changed for good. It is certain that living through a pandemic has changed companies, and people, in ways we could never have predicted. It has changed the way seafarers are viewed by the world at large now there is a far greater understanding of the importance of shipping to global economic development and consumers have seen the vital role that shipping plays in the lives of us all.
