Stock trading app providers told to review gaming features, over fears of problem-gambling

Some consumers using stock trading apps with gaming features are exhibiting "behaviours similar to problem-gambling", according to the FCA. As a result, the regulator is telling firms to review and improve their app products.

The Financial Conduct Authority made its statementto firms after carrying out research into these apps. The researchconcludes by highlighting concerns about in-app points, badges, celebratory messages, 'falling confetti' responses to trade purchases, leader boards, frequent market notifications and other game-like elements.
